Assam: Man dies after hit by Minister Pijush Hazarika's convoy

Guwahati: A man died after he was hit by escort vehicle of Assam Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika on National Highway 15 near in Biswanath on Monday evening.

The incident occurred near Sadharu in Biswanath when the vehicle hit the man who was walking on the road, locals said

The deceased was  identified as Rakesh Telami, a tea garden worker, said a local.

Following the fatal accident, enraged locals blocked the highway, demanding justice and accountability from the Minister.

The protest caused significant traffic disruptions on the national highway as demonstrators gathered at the scene.

Police officials arrived to de-escalate the situation, but protesters refused to disperse. The situation was brought under control only after Biswanath District Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngatey intervened, assuring the demonstrators of a meeting with Minister Hazarika to address their concerns.

Currently, District Commissioner Ngatey and police officials are accompanying 20 protesters, including family members of the deceased, to meet the Minister at the Paradise Hotel. This is a developing story, and further details are awaited.

 Earlier in March, a 30-year-old youth was killed and another one injured after they were hit by the convoy of minister Pijush Hazarika in Guwahati.

The youth identified as Rupam Bora succumbed to his injuries during treatment at Apollo Hospital in Guwahati.

Bora’s motorcycle was hit by a Bolero vehicle allegedly associated with Minister Pijush Hazarika‘s convoy.

Witnesses claim that the convoy was exceeding the permissible speed limit within the city.
