Assam: Hospital staff assaulted after patient dies in Majuli

Guwahati: Medical staff of a hospital in Majuli, Assam, were severely injured after being attacked by a patient's family who had died during treatment.

The incident took place at the Shri Shri Pitambar Dev Goswami Civil Hospital in Gormur, Majuli, on the night of September 22.

The alleged clash took place following the death of a 74-year-old cancer patient, Digen Halder.

After the patient passed away, a violent confrontation took place between his relatives and the hospital staff.

Reports state that Halder was brought to the hospital in a critical condition but despite the medical team's efforts, he succumbed during treatment.

The patient's relatives following this reacted violently, assaulting the medical staff and causing chaos throughout the hospital.

Several doctors and nurses also reported being attacked during the incident.

The patient's family also vandalized medical equipment in the ICU, further disrupting hospital services and alarming other patients.

After the incident, police responded to the calls made by the staff, detaining three of Halder's relatives involved in the attack.
