The decision comes amid concerns about potential cheating and malpractice using mobile applications and internet connectivity during the high-stakes exam.

"Given the large number of candidates and the sensitivity of the exam, we have taken this precautionary measure to ensure a level playing field for all. We want to instill public confidence in the fairness of the recruitment process and prevent any potential disruptions," said Ajay Tewari, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam.

The notification specifies that the internet ban will apply to all mobile service providers in the state, but fixed-line broadband connectivity will remain functional.

Violators of the ban will face legal consequences under the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 and the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023, said the notification.

The decision to impose an internet ban has sparked reactions with many users have raised concerns about the potential impact on businesses and communication.
