Assam government to launch special recruitment drive for 35,000 SSA teachers

GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Thursday (June 27) a special recruitment drive aimed at integrating 35,000 Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers, currently serving as contractual staff, into regular government service.

In light of a Supreme Court ruling that prevents the state cabinet from directly regularizing the services of contractual teachers, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma outlined the government’s plan to create 35,000 new vacancies for regular teachers within the SSA framework.

“These positions will be exclusively available for the current contractual teachers to apply,” the Assam chief minister said.

“Upon the successful recruitment of these 35,000 teachers, the equivalent number of contractual positions will be eliminated.”

“We are committed to enhancing the quality of education across Assam,” the chief minister stated, highlighting the initiative's goal to streamline the regularisation process within four to five months.
