Guwahati: The Assam government spent Rs 221 crore on advertisements that were published in different media in the last two years.

This was informed by Assam public relations minister Piyush Hazarika.

Hazarika revealed that the state government has spent a staggering Rs 221 crore on advertising in the last two years.

Hazarika acknowledged the financial struggles faced by the newspaper industry, particularly in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He stated that the Assam government is actively working to support the press, recognizing the vital role it plays in society.

"Many newspapers, especially those with low circulation, are facing significant challenges," Hazarika stated.

"The government is making efforts to provide assistance by ensuring that advertisements are placed even in smaller publications."
