Guwahati: A day after resigning from the Congress, senior politician, Rana Goswami joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at a formal program in Guwahati, Assam on Thursday.

The senior politician from Assam resigned from all posts in Congress on Wednesday.

He was rumoured to join BJP but there was no official or direct confirmation from him after the resignation.

On Thursday, he officially joined the BJP in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and party president Bhabesh Kalita at the Vajpayee Bhawan in Guwahati, Assam.

However, he has not made any official statement regarding his decision to switch sides.

It may be mentioned that internal sources said that there were some disputes within the Congress regarding the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Earlier, the leader of the opposition at the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia demanded Goswami to reveal the reason for his resignation.

Saikia urged Goswami to publicly speak of the reasons behind his resignation from the Congress.

Saikia said that it was important for transparency, stating that Goswami’s public disclosure of grievances would not only shed light on the circumstances leading to his decision but also contribute to the improvement of the Congress party’s internal dynamics.
