Guwahati: Assam's flood situation continues to deteriorate, with the death toll climbing to 66 after eight more people perished in the deluge, as reported by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

The recent fatalities include two each from Dhubri and Nalbari districts, and one each from Cachar, Goalpara, Dhemaji, and Sivasagar.

These add to the earlier casualties from floods, landslides, and storms this year, bringing the total to 66 according to the ASDMA bulletin.

Nearly 500 families in Rowmari Pathar have lost their homes and land due to erosion and flooding.

Barpeta district, one of the worst-hit regions, has seen 179 villages inundated, affecting close to 140,000 people with riverbank erosion and floods.

The agricultural sector has also been heavily impacted, with over 63,490 hectares of crops submerged across the state. Dhubri district alone has witnessed 775,721 residents severely affected by the floods, highlighting the gravity of the humanitarian crisis.

In total, more than 20 lakh lakh people in 30 Assam districts have been impacted by the floods.

These floods have disrupted daily life and caused substantial economic losses.
