Guwahati: The flood situation in Assam remained grim on Tuesday (July 2) with over 11.34 lakh people affected, and three more deaths being reported in the state over the past 24 hours, taking the toll in this year’s floods to 38.

The deluge has affected as many as 11,34,446 people in 2,208 villages and 84 revenue circles across 23 districts of the Northeastern state.

The catastrophic floods also claimed the lives of three more persons in the last 24 hours — two in Tinsukia and one in Dhemaji, while another person was reported missing in Biswanath district, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin said.

A total of 28 districts — Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, Majuli, Golaghat, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Hojai, Karbi Anglong, Karimganj, Cachar, Nagaon, Morigaon, Kamrup Metropolitan, Kamrup, Nalbari, Tamulpur, Darrang, Udalguri, Chirang, Goalpara, Barpeta, Bongaigaon and Kokrajhar have been inundated by flood waters, it said.

Lakhimpur continued to remain the worst-hit district with 1,65,319 people reeling under flood waters, followed by Darrang (1,47,143), Golaghat (1,06,480) and Dhemaji (1,01,888).

Altogether, 18,459 displaced people have been taking refuge in 130 relief camps, while 359 relief distribution centres are functional, it added.

On the other hand, 71 roads, six bridges and other infrastructures have been damaged, while five embankments were breached and 14 were affected.

Moreover, over 42,476 hectares of cropland, and 8,32,099 livestock and poultry have also been affected in the deluge, it said.

Several agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES), army, paramilitary force, Inland Water Transport (IWT) and local administration have been engaged in rescue operations, it added.

Meanwhile, major rivers Brahmaputra at Neamatighat, Tezpur, Guwahati and Dhubri, Subansiri (Badatighat), Burhidihing (Khowang), Dikhou (Sivasagar), Disang (Nanglamuraghat), Dhansiri (Numaligarh), Jia Bharali (NT Road crossing), Puthimari (NH Road crossing), Kopili (Kampur), Beki (Road Bridge), Kushiyara (Karimganj), Barak (BP Ghat), and Dhaleswari (Gharmura) are flowing above the danger level, the bulletin said.
