Assam: Ferry services suspended between Jorhat-Majuli as water level rises

Guwahati: With a rapid rise in the water levels of the Brahmaputra River, ferry services between Majuli and Jorhat in Assam have been suspended.

The Inland Water Transport Department has been forced to suspend ferry operations indefinitely on the Nimati Ghat to Aphalamukh route. Additionally, the Nimati-Kamalabari ferry service will be halted starting this evening as a precautionary measure.

The rising water levels have submerged all ferry ramps at the shores, rendering them unusable and unsafe for embarking passengers.

The administration and emergency services are closely monitoring the situation.

The swelling river not only disrupts transportation but also raises concerns about potential flooding in low-lying areas bordering the Brahmaputra.

Residents and commuters have been advised to exercise caution.
