US Ambassador Sergio Gor’s presence at Himanta Biswa Sarma’s swearing-in highlights growing US interest in Assam and the Northeast.

Guwahati: Sergio Gor, the US ambassador to India, attended at Himanta Biswa Sarma's May 12 swearing-in ceremony as Assam's chief minister, highlighting the northeastern state's increasing commercial and diplomatic interest from Washington.

"The United States and Assam have many commercial ties, and with the CM's leadership, we will identify many more win-win scenarios for both of our nations," Gor wrote on X after attending swearing-in ceremony in Guwahati.

It is noteworthy that the ambassador attended a state-level swearing-in. Since taking office, Gor has been one of the more active American diplomats in India. Earlier, he announced on X that President Donald Trump had had a direct conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating clearly, "President Trump just spoke with Prime Minister Modi.Stay tuned".

That discussion, which was verified in February while India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar was in Washington for discussions, was considered as a sign of improving bilateral relations.
