Assam Elections 2026: KMSS General Secretary Bidyut Saikia seriously injured in poll violence
Guwahati: Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) general secretary Bidyut Bikash Saikia was reportedly seriously injured in an alleged attack ahead of polling in Assam, triggering strong reactions from the organisation.
According to reports, Saikia was assaulted in the run-up to the elections. Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi condemned the incident, describing it as a “brutal physical attack”.
He alleged that the assault was carried out by a group led by Jayanta Hazarika, also known as Kushal Duwari, and claimed the attackers had political links. Gogoi demanded the immediate arrest of those involved, accusing them of attempting to intimidate opposition voices during the election period.
He further said another individual, identified as Pranjit Gogoi, was also injured in the same incident.
In connection with the attack, an FIR has been lodged at Sivasagar Police Station by Amlanjyoti Gogoi, naming several persons.
