Guwahati: Congress candidate from the Jorhat Assembly constituency and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi cast his vote on Thursday morning along with his mother, Dolly Gogoi.

The two voted at polling station number 52 at Devicharan Barua Higher Secondary Girls’ School, where they stood in queue with other voters and followed the prescribed procedure.

Speaking after casting his vote, Gogoi said the moment held personal significance. “I feel fortunate that my mother, who could not be present during the Lok Sabha elections due to her health, is here voting with us today,” he said.

Referring to the voter turnout, he said the enthusiasm among people indicated support for “good leadership and the ideals of a progressive Assamese society”.

He said the election reflected broader democratic aspirations. “The question today is about the aspirations of the people and the ideals of a democratic nation. We are grateful for the support and goodwill we have received,” he said, expressing confidence about the outcome.

Highlighting what he described as growing political awareness, Gogoi said, “The voice of the people has become stronger, which is a positive sign. Assamese society values self-respect and seeks to move forward with confidence.”

Earlier in the day, he paid floral tribute to former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at his residence in Nazir Ali before heading to the polling station. He said he drew inspiration from his father’s legacy in understanding the State’s history, culture and public concerns.

After voting, Dolly Gogoi said she was satisfied with the process and expressed her support for her son.
