Dibrugarh: Union Minister and former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday expressed confidence that the BJP-led NDA would secure close to 100 of the 126 seats in the Assembly elections, after casting his vote in Dibrugarh.

Speaking to reporters outside the polling station, Sonowal said the steady voter turnout despite rain and inclement weather reflected strong public support for the ruling alliance. “The people want the BJP-led NDA government in Assam again. Only then will peace and progress continue in the state,” he said.

He attributed the enthusiasm among voters to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said development initiatives of the central government had benefited people across the state. Sonowal added that turnout in both the Barak Valley and Brahmaputra Valley indicated broad-based support for the NDA.

In Dibrugarh, voters queued up at polling stations from early morning, many standing with umbrellas amid the rain. By 11 a.m., around 32.87% polling had been recorded in the Dibrugarh Assembly constituency.
