Assam: Eight arrested in Morigaon on cybercrime charges

Guwahati: At least eight persons were arrested in Morigaon, Assam on suspicion of being involved in a cybercrime racket.

According to reports, the accused were arrested from the Laharighat area of Morigaon, Assam based on specific inputs present with the police.

Based on the input, the police initiated an operation and apprehended eight suspects.

The prime accused were identified as Jahanur Ali, Fardis Ali, Wakibur Rahman, Hussain Jahangir Ali, and Babul Islam.

While the exact mode of their operations was not disclosed.

A source said they were engaged in an interstate phishing and fake loan scam.

The police had been tracking their activities for a long time and on Thursday, the suspects were nabbed.

All of them are taken into custody while some managed to escape, a source said.

Further investigations related to the scam is being carried out by the police.
