Assam: Dissatisfaction brews in Dibrugarh as tea garden population rejects incumbent MP
DIBRUGARH: The Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency in Assam, home to a significant population from tea gardens, finds itself dissatisfied with the incumbent MP Rameswar Teli, who seemingly overlooked their concerns during his decade-long tenure.
In a recent protest at Jokai Mohabir tea estate, villagers expressed frustration at Teli's absence and failure to address their issues, vowing not to support him in the upcoming elections.
Despite being just 21 km from Dibrugarh town in Assam, the area feels neglected, with essential infrastructural needs unmet.
Villagers lamented Teli's lack of engagement with their plight, highlighting the disparity in development compared to neighboring regions.
The discontent extends to schemes like Arunodoi and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY), from which they feel excluded.
Calls for fresh representation have emerged, with the Assam Tea Tribe Students' Association (ATTSA) urging the BJP to nominate a new candidate, who can effectively advocate for the community's interests.
Meanwhile, the AAP has put forward Manoj Dhanowar as their candidate, actively engaging with the tea garden populace in campaign efforts.
