Assam: Dibrugarh to host U13 national badminton tournament for the first time

Dibrugarh: Dibrugarh in Assam is all set to host the All India Sub-Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament 2024 (U-13 Boys and Girls) for the first time from October 25 to October 30 this year.

The prestigious event is being organised by the Dibrugarh District Sports Association (DDSA) under the aegis of the Assam Badminton Association (ABA) and Badminton Association of India (BAI).

The tournament will take place at Dibrugarh’s Multipurpose Indoor Stadium.

While the qualifying rounds are scheduled for October 25 and 26, the main draws will take place from October 27 to 30. 

It will see the participation of around 354 young players representing 26 states of the country, making the tournament one of the most anticipated events for the sub-junior badminton players.

The states participating in the tournament include Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.

The other states to participate are Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Puducherry and Bihar.

A total prize money of Rs 3 lakh will be awarded to the top players.

The tournament will be inaugurated by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, alongside other prominent dignitaries, including MPs Rameswar Teli and Pradan Baruah.

The event is a significant milestone for Dibrugarh as it enters the national badminton stage, offering young talent an excellent platform to showcase their skills and compete at a higher level.
