Assam: Dibrugarh gets new Chief Minister's secretariat
Dibrugarh: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the second Chief Minister's Secretariat in Dibrugarh on Friday.
The new secretariat will serve as a hub for governance in Upper Assam, catering to the needs of nearly 7.9 million people across nine districts.
Located in Dibrugarh, the secretariat will enhance administrative connectivity with the region's 21,264 square kilometers, encompassing Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Majuli, Jorhat, and Golaghat districts.
To ensure effective oversight and engagement, Chief Minister Sarma will spend four days a month at the Dibrugarh secretariat.
Addressing the gathering at the inauguration, the Chief Minister said, "Today marks a momentous occasion for Assam," he said.
"For the first time, the Chief Minister's Secretariat is being opened to the public outside Guwahati. This is not merely a building; it symbolizes our unwavering commitment to bringing governance closer to the people," he said.
The Dibrugarh secretariat will play a crucial role in monitoring state and central schemes and projects, promptly addressing grievances and petitions, accelerating regional and local development, and prioritizing region-specific policymaking.
Key functions of the secretariat will include periodic review meetings, coordination with various agencies and institutions, strengthening public outreach and grievance redressal, and collaborating with neighboring states, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, state cabinet ministers, and MLAs were present at the inaugural event.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Sarma inaugurated the renamed Jayanta Dutta Road in Dibrugarh, honoring the memory of the former BJP general secretary who was tragically killed by suspected ULFA militants in 2001.
