Assam: Dead fetus found in Barpeta, investigation initiated

Guwahati: On Sunday, locals found a dead fetus inside a cardboard box near a bridge in Barpeta, Assam.

As per reports, the fetus was found near a bridge beside Goma Phulbari Adarsha Vidyalaya in the Shila village area.

Residents suspect the fetus may have been abandoned due to an unwanted pregnancy.

Some speculate that societal pressure and shame surrounding such situations might have led to the act, a local said.

He added, however, the possibility of a stillbirth cannot be ruled out at this stage.

The police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.
