Guwahati: Assam’s athletes showcased their prowess at the ongoing ‘North East Games 2024’ in Nagaland, clinching several medals across various disciplines, for the second consecutive day on Wednesday.

Wushu proved to be an area of triumph for Assam as Sagar Mech and Joy Das bagged gold medals in the men’s 80kg and 52kg categories respectively.

On the other hand, Bijaya Rabha, H Roshni Devi, and Khwrwmdao Basumatary contributed to the medal tally with silver medals in their respective weight categories for women, while Milan Limbu and Sunil Chintey secured bronze medals for men.

In shot put, Assam dominated the podium with Laimwn Narzary securing the gold medal with a remarkable throw of 10.62 metres in the women’s event, closely followed by Madhusmita Nath who clinched silver with a throw of 9.96 metres. Among the men, Madhujya Arandhara showcased his strength with a silver-winning throw of 12.47 metres.

The table tennis arena witnessed Assam women’s team bagging gold, showcasing exceptional skill and teamwork, while the men’s team secured silver, narrowly missing the top spot.

In track events, Assam’s Munna Kumar Brahma and Mainu Dhanwar brought home gold medals in the 400 metres category with impressive timings of 49.11 seconds and 1:01.11 respectively, highlighting the state’s dominance on the track.

Assam women’s 4×100 metres relay team comprising Parmita Das, Diksha Chetri, Ambrika Narzary and Rimpi Buragohain won gold with a time of 50.71 seconds.

In archery, Arun Baro displayed his precision with gold in the Indian round men’s 50-metre event, while Rajesh Narzary secured silver, further solidifying Assam’s position in the sport. Meanwhile, Assam’s archery teams, recurve men, recurve women, and mixed teams reached the final.

In the Sepak Takraw team events, the Assam boys’ team secured commendable silver, while the girls’ team settled for bronze, adding to the state’s medal tally with their stellar performances. The third edition of the North East Games has provided a platform for the athletes from Assam to exhibit their exceptional talent and dedication, bringing pride to the state with their outstanding performances.
