Guwahati: The principal of Hamidabad College in Dhubri, Assam has been accused of embezzlement of approximately Rs 60-80 lakh of college funds.

Shahadot Ali, the principal, is suspected of misappropriating college funds under the guise of development projects.

The Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell has summoned several college staff members for questioning but has yet to receive a response, a report stated.

It has been alleged that fake bills were created to justify the purchase of materials while the funds were allegedly diverted.

The SVC has also summoned the owners of the companies involved in the supposed transactions.

The college management committee is suspected of being complicit in the alleged embezzlement.

In January 2024, a raid on the principal's residence uncovered incriminating documents related to the college.
