GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has highlighted the imperative of societal transformation extending beyond electoral agendas, with a particular focus on addressing issues like polygamy, child marriage, and other concerns within the 'Miya' community.

Speaking to news agency PTI, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma provided insights into key election issues and the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) outlook for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in Assam.

CM Sarma stressed that while topics such as polygamy and child marriage may not be central to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Assam, they hold critical importance for instigating social reforms within minority communities.

He emphasized the BJP’s commitment to tangible development outcomes over mere electoral gains, asserting, “Our aim is genuine development for the minority community. Whether they choose to support us at the polls is secondary.”

CM Sarma anticipated keen competition in three out of the 14 Lok Sabha seats contested by the BJP-led NDA.

Nonetheless, he exuded confidence in the BJP’s ability to secure resounding victories in the remaining 11 seats across Assam.
