GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched a fierce criticism of the Congress party, accusing it of forming alliances with groups he described as "pro-Pakistan".

Sarma's remarks were in response to the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) manifesto, which he claims reveals a concerning trend within the Congress party.

"I never imagined the Congress would compromise the unity and integrity of our nation," Sarma stated, referring to alleged ties between Congress and international figures like George Soros.

"These connections are no longer hidden. It's alarming that Congress is now aligning with an organization that supports Pakistan. This is a direct affront to the sacrifices made by our armed forces."

Sarma further warned that when a major opposition party begins to collaborate with forces that are "fundamentally anti-India", the very foundation of democracy is at risk.

"Whether in power or in opposition, it's crucial that we all stand together in our commitment to the nation's integrity and support for our armed forces," he added.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also criticized the Congress party on August 23 over its alliance with the National Conference (NC) ahead of the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir elections.

The BJP sought to put pressure on Congress by drawing attention to the NC's manifesto, which includes promises such as reinstating Articles 370 and 35A—provisions that were abrogated by the BJP-led central government.
