Guwahati: The Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma has come down heavily on the “Inheritance tax” proposed by the Congress party in its manifesto.

Sarma said that, “In India in every household, the parents give a part of their property to their children, and we all try to ensure that we do something in our lives so that we can keep something for our children when we are no more in this world. Congress in its manifesto has said that if my father gives me something be it land, vehicle, gold or anything else, then I have to pay 50 per cent tax on that particular property.”

Congress has termed this as an inheritance tax.

The Chief Minister added, “Now it means that if a mother gives gold to her daughter-in-law or her daughter before she expires then there will be tax levied to the tune of 50 per cent on those gold ornaments. And we all know where would Congress spend this money.”

He said that this Inheritance tax has become a major topic across the country, and few leaders from Congress are trying to wash their hands of this controversy.

This controversial inheritance tax is creating a furore among the middle-class and neo middle-class people in the nation, Shama added.
