However, the uniform civil code (UCC) bill, which will be introduced in Assam, will be drafted to suit the demographics of the state.

Tribals will be exempted from the uniform civil code (UCC) in Assam, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said.

“We are already fighting child marriage and polygamy. So the uniform civil code bill for Assam will include some tweaks,” CM Sarma had said.

He added: “There will be Assam-centric innovation in the bill. Tribals will be excluded from the ambit of uniform civil code.”
