Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet has announced the approval of a development council for the Maimal community or the Kiran Sheikh community.

The cabinet meeting that was held on Sunday approved the creation of a development council for the Maimal community, a Muslim fishing community residing primarily in the Barak Valley districts.

This move aligns with the establishment of similar councils for other communities in the state.
