Assam: BJP leader arrested in fake work order scam

Guwahati: A local BJP leader was arrested in connection with a scam related to the issuing of fake work orders in Assam.

The group, led by Ashim Das, has been accused of cheating businessmen from outside Assam out of crores by issuing fake work orders in the names of Development Councils and the Assam State Disaster Management Authority.

Das and accomplices allegedly defrauded Manpho Exports (Rs 3.77 crores) and Prontiach IT (Rs 4 crores) using elaborate schemes, fake documents, and impersonation.

Investigations revealed no genuine orders were issued.

The Crime Branch has arrested Das, claimed President of the SC Morcha of the BJP, and detained Birinchi Borkotoky, a retired officer posing as a fake Joint Secretary.
