SILCHAR: The Bangladesh high commission has announced its decision to open a visa centre at Silchar in Barak Valley of Assam.

This was informed by Bangladesh assistant high commissioner at Guwahati in Assam – Ruhul Amin on Monday (February 19).

Amin said that this decision was taken by the Bangladesh high commission following demands of visas people of Barak Valley in Assam.

Barak Valley in Assam comprises three districts: Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi.

However, the Bangladesh assistant high commissioner said that no date has been fixed for opening of the visa centre at Silchar in Assam.

But it will done soon, said Bangladesh assistant high commissioner at Guwahati in Assam – Ruhul Amin.

Applications for trips to Bangladesh will be processed in Silchar, stated Amin.

Additionally, a proposal to establish a border market in Harinagar part II of Katigorah is under consideration, with hopes for a positive outcome soon.

The proposed market spans 500 bighas of land along the Surma river in Cachar district of Assam.

The Bangladesh government is contemplating the establishment of two such markets to foster goodwill and cooperation among residents of the border regions.

Amin emphasized the importance of maintaining strong ties with India, stating, “Our government consistently prioritizes maintaining a positive relationship with India.”
