Guwahati: A group of 50 students from a Guwahati-based private university’s forensic science programme participated in an immersive educational experience at the Indian Army’s 51 Sub Area Provost Unit recently deepening their understanding of forensic ballistics.

The interactive session held on September 27 aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, Guwahati-based Defence PRO, Lt Col Mahendra Rawat, said on Saturday.

The unit’s expert personnel delivered a comprehensive lecture on forensic ballistics covering key concepts and techniques.

The students were then given a unique opportunity to visit the unit’s crime scene room where they received detailed briefings on evidence collection, analysis and preservation, he added.

This hands-on exposure allowed the students to grasp the intricacies of forensic investigation.

The students were also enabled to understand ballistic analysis and its significance in crime solving.

An interactive tea session provided a platform for students to engage with unit personnel clarifying doubts and gaining valuable insights, he said.

The visit was a resounding success with students expressing appreciation for the unit’s hospitality and expertise.

Many students shared that this experience has broadened their understanding of forensic ballistics and its applications.

Lt Col Rawat further said that this partnership between the university and the unit exemplifies the collaborative spirit necessary for advancing forensic science education.
