Assam: AMCH launches study on COVID vaccines’ side effects and sudden deaths
DIBRUGARH: A team of doctors from the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh is embarking on a scientific research endeavour to investigate the potential correlation between sudden deaths and adverse effects of the COVID vaccine.
Comprising Dr Mriganka Shekhar Chaliha, Dr Srimanta Madhav Barua, Dr Pranami Bora, Dr Anis Hazra, and Dr Shyamjit Laxman, the team aims to provide accurate insights to the public and address concerns surrounding the COVID vaccine.
Their research initiative seeks to offer clarity on any potential risks associated with the vaccine by conducting a comprehensive investigation and collecting valuable data to understand the underlying reasons behind the reported increase in sudden deaths and unusual health conditions following vaccination.
Dr Mriganka Shekhar Chaliha, professor and head of the department of cardiology at the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), emphasized the growing public perception regarding the uptick in heart attacks or cardiovascular ailments in recent times.
He stated, “There is a question among the people whether it is related to COVID-19 or the COVID vaccine. Therefore, we have decided to conduct a comprehensive scientific research study on the matter.”
The research team intends to administer various tests, including ECG, ECO, HSCRP, and Cardiac MRI, to both COVID-19 patients and individuals who have received the COVID vaccine.
Participation in the study will be treated with confidentiality, and all tests will be provided free of charge to participants.

Recently, pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca acknowledged that its COVID-19 vaccine, known as Covishield in India and Vaxzevria in Europe, can lead to low platelet count and a rare blood clot-related side effect called Thrombosis Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (TTS) in rare cases.
Despite these occurrences, the vaccine has been widely utilized in the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
