Guwahati: The flood situation in Assam remains critical, with five lives lost in the last 24 hours bringing the total death toll to 84 according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority.

While one drowning incident in Dhubri was unrelated to floods, four others in Dibrugarh, South Salmara, Dhemaji, and Cachar were attributed to the ongoing deluge.

The situation is further complicated by erosion in Udalguri and Tinsukia districts, though thankfully no casualties due to erosion have been reported in the past day.

Meanwhile, Kaziranga National Park continues to bear the brunt of the flooding. Officials have confirmed the deaths of 163 animals, while rescue efforts have managed to save 135 so far.
