Assam: 3 ex-NDFB cadres held in Arunachal in robbery case

Itanagar: The East Siang District Police in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday averted a robbery attempt in the Paghat market area and arrested five individuals, including three former cadres of now-disbanded National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), a tribal insurgent group of Assam.

East Siang District SP Sachin Kumar Singhal said acting on specific information
that an Assam-based group including surrendered cadres of NDFB planned to carry out dacoity at a shop in the Pasighat market area,an operation was launched.

The operation was carried out by team led by ASP Pankaj Lamba, including Pasighat PS OC Ige Lollen, SI Kuncha Tangha, and others.

The SP said an overnight operation including multiple raids led to the apprehension of three
surrendered cadres of NDFB from Pasighat. They are William Basumatary, Rashmi Basumatary
(both residents of Sonitpur, Assam), and Basant Basumatary alias Ladum, a native of Baksa
(Assam).

Their further interrogation and disclosure statements revealed the involvement of other
individuals who had escaped from the town given heavy police checking, Singhal said while
informing that a police team comprising of SI Kuncha Tangha, Head Constable C Kumar, and
others proceeded to chase and then they in coordination with Assam Police arrested two more
persons namely, Paresh Deka alias Haathi, and Mrigen Rabha of Baksa from Hatigaon area of
Guwahati.

According to the SP, six mobile phones and a car alleged to be used to execute the dacoity have
been recovered. A case under Section 399/120B IPC has been registered at Pasighat Police
Station. Further investigation is underway to arrest the remaining alleged accused and other material evidence, he said.
