Assam: 11 succumb to cholera & diarrhoea within one week in Tonganagaon tea estate
TINSUKIA: A wave of panic has engulfed the Tonganagaon tea estate under the Doomdooma revenue circle in Tinsukia district of Assam following the deaths of at least 11 individuals from cholera and diarrhoea within a week.
The rapid spread of these diseases has sparked serious concerns about the health crisis in the tea garden area, particularly in the Kulibill line, which has recorded the highest number of fatalities.
Reports indicate that many affected individuals are currently receiving treatment at the garden hospital.
In response to the crisis, the Assam Tea Tribe Students’ Association (ATTSA), Tinsukia district committee, has submitted a memorandum to the district commissioner.
They have demanded immediate measures to ensure adequate treatment for those who are ill, whether at home or in the hospital.
ATTSA has also called for the provision of proper health services in all tea gardens and ex gratia compensation for the families of those who have died.
Additionally, they have requested the organization of medical camps throughout the district's tea gardens.
ATTSA has released the names of the 11 deceased, who are:

- Jimmy Garh (60)
- Sita Tanti (32)
- Loiya Tanti (50)
- Sachin Tanti (43)
- Sibrat Gowala (45)
- Dhanu Tanti (50)
- Gorothi Urang (60)
Meanwhile, Assam labour and tea tribes welfare minister Sanjay Kishan visited the garden to assess the situation.
He informed the media that a mobile medical unit team from the Assam health department has already arrived at the garden and commenced treatment efforts.
