Rezina Mihu becomes first from Arunachal elected IMI Vice Chairperson
Itanagar: Rezina Mihu of Arunachal Pradesh has been elected Vice Chairperson of the Integrated Mountain Initiative (IMI), a national body working to promote sustainable mountain development across India’s Himalayan and other mountain states.
Mihu is the first person from Arunachal Pradesh to hold the position.
The results of the IMI Governing Council Election 2026 were announced on Saturday by Returning Officer Dr Satyadeep S Chhetri. STS Lepcha of Uttarakhand was elected Chairperson, while Mihu was elected Vice Chairperson for the 2026-29 term.
Roshan Rai of Darjeeling was elected Secretary. Binita Shah of Uttarakhand and Priyadarshini Shreshtha of Sikkim were elected Joint Secretary (Treasurer) and Joint Secretary, respectively.
The newly elected councilors are Rajan Kotru of Himachal Pradesh, Amba Jamir of Nagaland, GS Rawat of Uttarakhand, MP Sood of Himachal Pradesh, Jigmet Takpa of Ladakh and Prof John Zothanzama of Mizoram.
The formal handing and taking over of office will be held at a later date.
The IMI works on issues including sustainable development, water security, community empowerment and policy advocacy for India’s mountain regions.
Mihu’s public engagement has included serving as Secretary of the Sustainable Development Forum of Arunachal (SDFA), Itanagar. According to the organisation, his journey from student leadership to a national platform reflects his sustained work on sustainable mountain development and community empowerment.
His election to the IMI’s Governing Council leadership is being seen as recognition of his contribution to issues affecting mountain communities and sustainable development in the Himalayan region.
