Indo-Myanmar Border Haat resumes at Arunachal's Pangsau Pass after six years
Guwahati: The historic India-Myanmar Border Haat at Pangsau Pass in Arunachal Pradesh's Changlang district has resumed operations after a gap of six years, reviving cross-border trade between the two countries.
Arunachal Pradesh Trade and Commerce Minister Nyato Dukam formally inaugurated the Border Haat on Thursday.
The inaugural programme was attended by Trade and Commerce Advisor Mohesh Chai, local MLA Laisam Simai, Trade and Commerce Secretary Bullo Mamung, Director Toko Togur, Additional Deputy Commissioner Lekhandu Thungon, officials and local stakeholders.
Located at Nampong in Changlang district, the Pangsau Pass Border Haat reopened on July 20 after remaining closed for six years.
Officials said the market will operate on the 10th, 20th and 30th of every month, providing a platform for border communities from both countries to engage in trade.
The Border Haat is expected to facilitate the exchange of locally produced goods, generate economic opportunities for border residents and strengthen people-to-people ties between India and Myanmar.
Officials said the initiative is also expected to promote border tourism and encourage cultural interaction between communities living on either side of the international boundary.
The state government expects the resumption of trade at the Border Haat to contribute to economic activity and improve regional connectivity in the border district.
