Arunachal: STSAM stages protest in Itanagar over reported presence of Chinese PLA in Taksing
Dibrugarh: The Save Taksing-Save Arunachal Movement Committee (STSAM) staged a protest dharna at IG Park in Itanagar on Saturday, raising concerns over the reported presence and activities of China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in the Taksing sector of Arunachal Pradesh.
STSAM, a civil society group formed to raise concerns over alleged Chinese intrusion in Arunachal Pradesh, called for immediate steps to address the situation and strengthen security along the international boundary.
The committee demanded the withdrawal of Chinese forces from areas it claims are under occupation, time-bound demarcation of the international boundary, improved border connectivity and the creation of a dedicated Arunachal Regiment in the Indian Army.
A protester alleged that the Chinese PLA had occupied five areas in the Taksing sector and said the demonstration was organised to highlight concerns over the reported developments.
“We have staged a protest against the alleged intrusion of the Chinese PLA in the Taksing sector of Arunachal Pradesh. The Chinese PLA has captured five areas, and we have organised this programme to express our concern and patriotism,” the protester said.
The protesters also appealed to political parties across Arunachal Pradesh to set aside political differences and jointly raise concerns over border security.
“Maybe you have political differences, but now you should come here and raise your voice against the Chinese PLA,” the protester said.
STSAM said it had submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking steps to push back the alleged Chinese presence and strengthen security in the region.
The protesters also called for better connectivity in the Taksing area, arguing that improved infrastructure would help security forces patrol the remote border region more effectively.
“We want a permanent boundary to secure our land. Our Army faces problems while patrolling, so we demand better connectivity in the Taksing area,” the protester said.
Slogans including “Go back Chinese PLA”, “Return our land” and “Bharat Mata ki Jai” were raised during the demonstration.
The protest comes after the NAH Welfare Society (NWS), a community organisation based in Taksing, raised similar concerns over what it described as systematic encroachment by the Chinese PLA in the Taksing circle of Upper Subansiri district.
In a letter dated June 26, 2026, addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Upper Subansiri district at Daporijo, the organisation claimed that Chinese military camps had been established and roads and bridges constructed in areas it considers Indian territory.
The letter, signed by NWS president Keru Chader, identified five locations where the organisation alleged Chinese PLA activity: Oying (2445) in the Asaphila area, Paniar in the Chujarta area, Marpan (Marnafe), Potrang Lake and Tindingtang.
