ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh unit of the BJP expelled 28 of its party members for a period of six years on Tuesday (May 07).

The 28 BJP members were expelled by the party for their decision to run in elections against the officially endorsed party candidates in their respective assembly and parliamentary constituencies in Arunachal Pradesh.

Arunachal Pradesh BJP issued a statement, stating that the members had made a decision that contradicted the directives issued by the BJP during the 2024 parliamentary and assembly polls.

“The following list of persons have contested election in their respective Assembly & Parliamentary constituencies against the official party candidates in the simultaneous Parliamentary & Assembly Election 2024. Consequent upon the recommendation of the State Disciplinary Action Committee, under the Chairmanship of Shri Tarh Tarak; the Party hereby expels them for a period of Six (6) Years…with immediate effect,” the expulsion order read.

The 28 expelled members ran in the elections from constituencies, where BJP's allies - the NPP, PPA and the NCP - fielded their candidates.

It may be mentioned here that assembly and Lok Sabha elections in the BJP-ruled state of Arunachal Pradesh were held on April 19.

The results of the Arunachal Pradesh assembly elections will be declared on June 2.
