Arunachal: Pasighat man gets 20 years jail in POCSO case
Pasighat: The Special Judge (POCSO) Court in Arunachal Pradesh's Pasighat has sentenced Bomdo Tali to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the sexual assault of a minor girl.
The case originated from an FIR lodged by the victim, identified as Miss A, on November 27, 2023, alleging that the accused, Bomdo Tali, had raped her.
A case was promptly registered at the Women Police Station, Pasighat, under Sections 342, 354B, and 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) read with Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The successful prosecution was largely attributed to the thorough and professional investigation led by Inspector Ojum Riba, then Officer-in-Charge of the Women Police Station, Pasighat. Her diligence ensured the case was built on strong evidence.
After the completion of the trial, the Special Judge, POCSO Court, Pasighat, pronounced the verdict on September 18, 2025, convicting the accused on multiple charges.
The court awarded 20 years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 42 of the POCSO Act for sexual assault, alongside a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 376(3) of the IPC for rape on a woman under sixteen years of age.
Additionally, the accused was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 354B of the IPC for assault or use of criminal force with intent to disrobe, and six months’ simple imprisonment under Section 342 of the IPC for wrongful confinement.
All sentences are to run concurrently.
