Arunachal: Over 25,000 kg of garbage removed from Pane Korong river

Guwahati: A massive cleanup drive on Saturday set a new benchmark for river cleanliness at Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh.

Over 150 volunteers from the Youth Mission for Clean River (YMCR) and the Rengging Baane Yameng Kebang (RBYK), along with local residents, removed a staggering 25,000 kilograms of garbage from the Pane Korong River in the Banskota area.

Pasighat MLA Tapi Darang participated in the drive and commended the YMCR's efforts. He highlighted the importance of the initiative in raising awareness about the environmental impact of waste generation.

Darang urged local authorities to take concrete steps towards improved waste management and river pollution control.

Dr. Kombong Darang, representing RBYK, said that keeping rivers clean is a collective responsibility.

He urged individuals to adopt sustainable practices that minimize waste generation and called for community ownership in protecting rivers for future generations.

Tobom Dai, spokesperson for the Giidang Angong Society, applauded the YMCR's role in raising awareness about river pollution.

He pointed out that the waste collected originated from local households and emphasized the importance of waste management and reduction for a cleaner Pasighat.

Sunny Tayeng, representing the East Siang District Legal Services Authority, reiterated their commitment to supporting environmental initiatives.

The successful cleanup was followed by a tree plantation drive at the Independent Golden Jubilee Government Higher Secondary School. Representatives from various Pasighat organizations also participated in the event.
