Miao: A heinous attempted rape incident in Namphai-II, near Miao in Arunachal Pradesh's Changlang district has sparked widespread outrage and calls for immediate justice.

On October 11, Rapyal Havi Pantha (32) allegedly attempted to rape a 28-year-old widow in the Namphai-II market area. The victim, a mother of three, lost her husband recently and was celebrating Durga Puja with the neighbors.

Enraged by the crime, residents of Phangyak and nearby villages nearly lynched the accused. However, police intervention prevented the situation from escalating further.

The incident has led to widespread protests and demonstrations in Miao. Locals have demanded capital punishment for the accused and blocked roads, burning tires in protest.

Several organizations, including the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society and the Longchang Elite Society, have condemned the crime and urged authorities to take strict action against the accused.

They have called for a fast-track investigation and harsh punishment to deter similar incidents in the future.

The All Changlang District Students' Union has also raised concerns about the practice of adopting outsiders by the local community, warning that such practices can pose risks to societal safety.
