One student was reportedly brought dead to Bakin Pertin General Hospital (BPGH), while others sustained severe and moderate injuries.

According to injured patients receiving treatment at BPGH, eight youths were on the pick-up truck cargo bed, along with a young girl and her father, who was driving the vehicle.

The girl, her father, and another youth from the cargo bed were referred to Dibrugarh due to the severity of their injuries.

The cause of the accident is not confirmed, as the driver/owner of the vehicle is also receiving treatment at a hospital in Dibrugarh.

Injured patients said the pick-up truck likely hit the parked dumper truck due to brake failure.

Seeing the number of injured youths arriving at BPGH, the doctors' association immediately circulated a message to off-duty doctors to assist. All doctors rushed to the hospital and provided emergency care.

Doctors from ENT, Orthopedics, Surgery, Anesthesia, and Medicine, as well as medical officers who were off duty, worked together to provide timely care and stabilize patients.

"A real thanks and gratitude to everyone who came to help in such an hour of need. Thank you Dr. K. Tayeng, Dr. B. Tayeng, Dr. Taloh, Dr. Tani Siram, Dr. Donyi, Dr. Ojong, Dr. Yaaram and Dr. Genom. I wouldn't have been able to manage without all your help. There could have been more casualties. A great thanks to all again," wrote an emergency on-duty doctor in the doctors' WhatsApp group.

Senior doctors Dr. Bomni Tayeng, Dr. Kaling Jerang, and Dr. Tani Siram confirmed that necessary medical care was provided, with some patients already discharged and others still undergoing treatment.

“As doctors, we will keep on giving our services to the needy patients and public at the time of need even if we are off-duty,” said Dr. Bomni Tayeng and Dr. Kaling Jerang.
