Arunachal minister Dasanglu Pul stresses cultural identity, heritage preservation

Guwahati: Arunachal Pradesh Women, Child Development and Cultural Affairs Minister Dasanglu Pul on Monday said the protection of cultural identity and heritage is essential for strengthening unity and instilling pride among the younger generation.
Addressing the “Somnath Swabhiman Parv” programme at Kardo in Ziro, Pul said the event marked 75 years of the renovation of the historic Somnath Temple and reflected the resilience of Sanatan culture despite repeated attempts over centuries to destroy the shrine.
She said Somnath Temple had withstood repeated invasions but continued to stand as a symbol of faith and cultural identity. Pul also highlighted the role of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in initiating its reconstruction after Independence.
Quoting former President Rajendra Prasad, she said the temple represented the triumph of “the power of construction over the power of destruction.”
The minister urged young people to remain committed to preserving cultural heritage and traditions while also embracing development and innovation.
She said both the Centre and the Arunachal Pradesh government were working to preserve and promote India’s cultural legacy through improved connectivity and tourism initiatives.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi”, Pul stressed the need to balance development with heritage conservation, adding that Arunachal Pradesh could build a distinct global identity by blending tradition with innovation.
“Somnath Swabhiman Parv” marks the 75th anniversary of the reconstruction and consecration of the Somnath Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple was rebuilt after Independence under the leadership of Sardar Patel and inaugurated by Rajendra Prasad on May 11, 1951.
The programme was attended by Chief Information Commissioner Major General (Retd) Jarken Gamlin, Lower Subansiri ZPC Hibu Dumi, Art and Culture Secretary Mamata Riba, Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme and other dignitaries.
