Arunachal: Militants target Assam Rifles post in Changlang, search operation underway
Dibrugarh: Militants targeted an Assam Rifles post at Longvi under Nampong Police Station in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district on Friday morning, two days ahead of Independence Day.
No casualties were reported in the incident, according to security sources. The militants opened fire on the post from across the India-Myanmar border, prompting Assam Rifles personnel to retaliate.
Longvi is a remote border village in the Jairampur-Nampong area of Changlang district, close to the international boundary with Myanmar.
Sources said the attackers opened indiscriminate fire on the Assam Rifles post before security personnel responded with heavy fire. The exchange of fire reportedly created tension in the surrounding area.
Security sources suspect the involvement of ULFA-I or NSCN-K-YA, both of which had earlier called for a boycott of Independence Day celebrations.
Assam Rifles installations in the region have been targeted by militant groups in the past.
A search operation has been launched to trace the attackers, while security forces have intensified surveillance around the post and nearby areas following the incident, officials said.
