Arunachal: Mass fish deaths in Papum Pare river spark concerns
Papum Pare: A growing concern has gripped villagers in Arunachal Pradesh's Papum Pare district after a large number of fish with unusual red, ulcer-like wounds have been found dead in the Poma river over the past month.
The alarming situation has prompted speculation about the cause of the mass mortality.
While a bacterial infection is suspected as a possible culprit, Dr. Sorang Tadap, a wildlife veterinarian, cautioned against jumping to conclusions.
"It appears to be a bacterial infection, but we must await the findings of fisheries experts before making a definitive diagnosis," Dr. Tadap said.
The incident has caused widespread fear and uncertainty among local residents, who are now hesitant to consume fish from the river.
"We are terrified by what's happening. We urge the authorities to investigate this matter promptly and take necessary steps to address the issue," said a villager.
