Arunachal: FM Sitharaman reviews Northeast's regional rural banks
Guwahati: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday commenced her three-day visit to Arunachal Pradesh by chairing a high-level meeting in Itanagar.
The meeting was convened to assess the performance of the seven regional rural banks operating in the Northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura.
During the meeting, discussions centered on enhancing business performance, upgrading digital technology services and promoting business growth in allied agriculture and MSME sectors.
Sitharaman while emphasising the crucial role played by the regional rural banks in supporting rural economies, urged them to focus on identifying suitable beneficiaries for the government schemes.
She also directed the banks to increase their contribution to ground-level agricultural credit disbursement, with a special emphasis on horticulture and allied activities including, piggery, poultry, and dairy and fisheries to further strengthen rural livelihoods.
On her second day in the frontier state, Sitharaman will visit Namsai where she is scheduled to attend various programmes aimed at promoting financial inclusion and fostering economic development across the Northeastern region.
On the final day of her visit, the union minister will participate in various programmes in Namsai for community welfare.
