Arunachal: 'Drug Free East Siang' sports fest begins in Pasighat to engage youth
Pasighat: The opening ceremony of the much-anticipated “Sports Fest,” themed “Drug Free East Siang,” was held on Friday at the Battalion Headquarters, 5th IRBN, Jarkong, in Arunachal Pradesh’s Pasighat.
The event was jointly organized by the East Siang Police and the 5th IRBN Battalion Headquarters to promote a healthy, disciplined, and drug-free lifestyle among the youth.
The ceremony commenced in the morning in the presence of Sonalika Jiwani, Deputy Commissioner of Pasighat, who graced the event as the Chief Guest.
In her address, Jiwani lauded the initiative of the Police Department and IRBN for using sports as a constructive platform to engage young minds and steer them away from substance abuse.
She also emphasized collective responsibility and continuous awareness as vital steps to build a strong, drug-free community.
Senior officers from East Siang Police and IRBN, public leaders, sports enthusiasts, and young participants from various parts of the district attended the event, marking an energetic and inspiring start to the sports fest.
The week-long event will feature multiple sports disciplines aimed at fostering teamwork, discipline, and community bonding while spreading a strong message against drug abuse.
Pankaj Lamba, Superintendent of Police, East Siang District, expressed hope that the Sports Fest would not only nurture sporting talent but also significantly contribute to the ongoing mission of creating a drug-free East Siang district.
