Arunachal Civil Society seeks cancellation of alleged illegal appointments in PHE dept
Itanagar: The Arunachal Civil Society (ACS) has demanded the cancellation of allegedly illegal appointments made in the Public Health Engineering and Water Supply (PHE&WS) department.
Giah Tanam, ACS IPR secretary, in a press conference on Saturday expressed concern that these appointments, allegedly made "under the jurisdiction of the chief engineer, eastern zone, in Changlang district," could jeopardize the future of Arunachal Pardesh's youth by unfairly limiting job opportunities.
Tanam said, "This blatant disregard for the integrity of public institutions… needs to be stopped as soon as possible."
He pointed to a "constant rise of unlawful recruitment procedures" across various departments and highlighted a 2017 incident involving teacher recruitment as another example.
The ACS demands include, cancellation of appointments for all 25 individuals within 14 days, legal action against those involved to uphold Article 16 of the Constitution, which guarantees equal opportunity in public employment, termination of government officials involved in the alleged illegal appointments and public disclosure of the identities of all individuals involved, including politicians, officials, and brokers, to ensure transparency and accountability.
ACS convener Kamin Yangfo stressed that both those who appoint and those who accept appointments bear responsibility.
He said the ACS's commitment to achieving a "solid conclusion" on the issue and vowed to "continue to monitor" developments.
