Arunachal: APCC president urges ‘Black Day’ on Nov 8, slams 2016 demonetisation
Guwahati: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bosiram Siram has criticised the 2016 demonetisation, calling it one of the most “misguided and destructive” economic decisions in India’s history.
He alleged that the move caused significant economic disruption and widespread hardship across the country.
Siram urged the people of Arunachal Pradesh to observe November 8 as Black Day to remember those who, he claimed, lost their lives and livelihoods as a result of the policy.
He encouraged citizens to use the day to reaffirm their commitment to protecting economic stability and democratic accountability.
The Congress leader stated that demonetisation failed to meet its intended goals, including curbing black money, combating corruption, stopping terror financing, and eliminating counterfeit currency.
“Demonetisation did not target black money; it hit the backbone of India’s real economy, the poor and the working class,” Siram said in a statement.
He also accused the government of inflicting long-term harm on small businesses, daily wage earners, and farmers, asserting that the policy left lasting damage to India’s informal sector and rural economy.
