Arunachal: NSCN (K, Niki-Sumi) cadre held with arms in Tirap
Itanagar: Security forces on Thursday arrested an active cadre of the banned National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-K, Niki Sumi faction) during an operation in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district, officials said on Saturday.
Acting on specific intelligence, a joint team of the Assam Rifles and Arunachal Pradesh Police launched an operation in the Hukanjuri area and apprehended Jenlong Supong, a self-styled captain of the proscribed outfit.
The team also recovered a pistol, a magazine, six live rounds, a mobile phone and a PAN card from his possession. Officials handed him over to Khonsa Police Station along with the seized items for further investigation and legal formalities.
Security officials said the successful operation reflects the “continued commitment, vigilance and seamless coordination” between central and state agencies to maintain peace and stability in the frontier state.
They added that such intelligence-led actions remain vital in checking insurgent movement and enhancing security across sensitive border districts.
