Digboi: The All India Chakma Students’ Union (AICSU), the apex organisation representing Chakma students across the country, has released the list of its National Executive office bearers for the 2025–27 term.

The new body consists of 52 office bearers supported by a five-member Advisory Board, with a renewed mission to advance educational opportunities, student rights, cultural preservation, and youth empowerment across India.

A defining highlight of the new committee is the unprecedented representation from Arunachal Pradesh, which has secured 15 key positions — the highest among all states. This dominant presence marks a transformational shift in AICSU’s leadership landscape and reinforces the organisation’s commitment to addressing the long-standing concerns of Chakma students in Arunachal Pradesh, especially those relating to education, identity documentation, and socio-legal marginalisation.

Arunachal Pradesh now holds crucial leadership portfolios, including the President, Vice President (Ex-Officio), Secretary (Information & Public Relations), Secretary and Assistant Secretary for Legal Affairs, Assistant Education Secretary, and multiple Organising Secretary positions, in addition to seven National Executive Members and one Advisory Board Member.

This significant presence will provide a stronger platform to address student issues emerging from the state.

At the helm, Adv. Drishyamuni Chakma, hailing from Arunachal Pradesh, has assumed office as the President of AICSU.

Speaking to a North East Now reporter after the announcement, Drishyamuni Chakma said, “This strong representation of Arunachal Pradesh in the AICSU National Executive is not just symbolic — it takes a decisive step to ensure that Chakma students in the state can make their voices and struggles heard, recognised, and addressed on national platforms. We will focus on educational equity, legal awareness, and institutional support to ensure that no Chakma student in Arunachal is left behind.”

AICSU appointed Adv. Atul Chakma as Vice President (Ex-Officio), while other Arunachal-based office bearers took charge of key portfolios in Public Relations, Education, Legal Affairs, and Organising Committees for various regions of India. Arunachal-based members in the Advisory Board now provide stronger strategic guidance to the Union.

Leaders from Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, and various regions, including Delhi-NCR, North India, and South India, also form a diverse leadership network aimed at enhancing the Union’s national outreach and coordination. The Executive comprises dedicated wings for Education, Culture, IPR, Legal Affairs, and Organising Committees for regional operations.

Expressing his vision for the term, Drishyamuni added that AICSU will prioritise legal support, student rights advocacy, scholarship and skill-development initiatives, cultural integration, and strengthened inter-state engagement among Chakma youth.

He further affirmed that the AICSU will give special attention to the systemic challenges that Chakma students in Arunachal Pradesh face.

The newly formed Executive will hold its first National Council Meeting later this month to finalise the action plan and launch state-specific programmes. With Arunachal Pradesh now taking centre stage in the leadership structure, the new term will bring stronger advocacy, greater visibility, and meaningful reforms for Chakma students across the North East and the rest of India.
