Arunachal Pradesh passes bill for creation of two new districts

ITANAGAR: A new bill has been passed by the Arunachal Pradesh assembly for creation of two new districts in the frontier state.

The two new districts in Arunachal Pradesh have been created in the western and southern parts of the state.

Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu introduced the Arunachal Pradesh (Re-Organisation of Districts) Amendment Bill, 2024, paving the way for creation of Keyi Panor and Bichom districts.

With the creation of two more districts, the total number of districts in Arunachal Pradesh has risen to 28.

Keyi Panyor district, with a population of over 30,000 and 195 villages, will be carved out from Lower Subansiri district.

It will have its headquarters at Yachuli (Ter Gapin-Sam Sath area).

On the other hand, Bichom district is set to be carved out from East Kameng and West Kameng districts in Arunachal Pradesh.

Napangphung has been designated as the headquarters of Bichom district of Arunachal Pradesh.

Encompassing an area of 2897 square-kilometers and a population of 9710 (as per the 2011 census), Bichom district will include 20 villages from West Kameng and 11 from East Kameng district.
